Kula Farm Girl is my mom. Hideko Honda was born in 1926 in a small house in farm country: Kula, Maui. Delivered by a mid-wife, she is the second of nine children.
This is the story of a girl in territorial Hawaii, separated from her family for long stretches every year to attend deaf and blind school on Oahu, surviving poverty to find her place in a world she has can never hear.
